The Investigative Services Bureau provides thorough and comprehensive investigations of all criminal matters mandated by statute and established Division Policy. These professional investigative services are provided to federal, state, county and local law enforcement agencies, including the State Attorney General’s office.
The Bureau directs and coordinates the Division’s investigative operations through its three specialized units, Major Crime, Narcotics and Investigations and Terrorism Intelligence. The Bureau’s diverse innovative programs, modern equipment, training and technical expertise complement its devoted personnel and make it the most comprehensive and coordinated statewide resource for providing professional police investigative services to the citizens of New Hampshire.
Major Crime Unit personnel continue their efforts in the area of death and homicide investigation. Unit investigators aid and assist local, state and federal agencies with the investigation of serious offenses. The Major Crime Unit stands on technical services, whether processing a crime scene, interviewing a witness or providing polygraph screening, and the investigators are committed to following each lead to it’s logical conclusion.
Multi-state investigations have become regular for Major Crime Unit Investigators. Investigators are called on to stretch their resources across the United States in pursuit of those who have committed the ultimate act in defiance of public safety. In addition to the importance of its regular duties, the Major Crime Unit acts as the investigative tool for the State Attorney General's Office in matters of internal importance and the review of deadly force situations involving Law Enforcement Officers.
The Narcotics and Investigations Unit is currently tasked with the investigation of all drug and vice related crimes while maintaining a staff of undercover personnel and specialized equipment.
The Terrorism Intelligence Unit continues to review vast amounts of raw data in an organized effort to provide all law enforcement agencies a central point for sensitive information. The compiling and issuing of comprehensive intelligence reports to track suspicious activity is the mainstay of operations. The unit also supports the efforts of a Federal Bureau of Investigation Joint Terrorism Task Force and acts as the pathway between federal and state law enforcement efforts.
While maintaining the Division’s tradition of fairness, professionalism and integrity, the Investigative Services Bureau is committed to the identification, investigation, apprehension, and prosecution of groups or individuals involved in criminal activity within the state.
