Seabrook Station To Conduct Emergency Siren Demonstration
CONCORD, NH – Seabrook Station nuclear power plant, in conjunction with NH Homeland Security and Emergency Management, the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency and local emergency management officials will conduct a demonstration of Seabrook emergency sirens on Saturday, Oct. 25 at 12:30 pm.
All 121 sirens, located in New Hampshire and Massachusetts, will be sounded at that time.
"This is an important demonstration of Seabrook’s emergency warning system," said Christopher M. Pope, Director of Homeland Security and Emergency Management. "People in the Seabrook Emergency Planning Zone need to know what the sirens sound like and what to do if they hear them."
Pope added that when people in New Hampshire hear the sirens they should tune to WOKQ Radio at 97.5 FM, which is the primary Emergency Alert System radio station in the state, or other radio or TV stations for emergency instructions.
For purposes of the Oct. 25 siren demonstration people do not need to take any action.
The demonstration will last 3-5 minutes and is expected to be concluded by 12:35 p.m.
Ninety-four of the sirens are located in New Hampshire, in the communities of Seabrook, Hampton Falls, Hampton, South Hampton, Kensington, North Hampton, Exeter, Stratham, Rye, East Kingston, Greenland, Newton, Portsmouth, Kingston, Brentwood, Newfields and New Castle.
The 27 sirens in Massachusetts are located in Amesbury, Merrimac, Newbury, Newburyport, Salisbury and West Newbury.
