Hazardous Materials Operations | Hazardous Materials Decontamination | Hazardous Materials Technician

 

Course Name: Hazardous Materials Operations

Career Track: Firefighter/Haz-Mat
Hours: 24
Description: This course provides the student with the basic skills necessary to safely and effectively manage the on-scene operations involving the uncontrolled release of dangerous chemicals. As such, it focuses on those individuals in local jurisdictions who respond to releases or potential releases of hazardous substances as part of the initial response to the site for the purpose of protecting nearby persons, property, or the environment from the effects of the release. They are trained to respond in a defensive fashion without actually trying to stop the release. Their function is to contain the release from a safe distance, keep it from spreading, and prevent exposures. The course is designed to meet the training responsibilities as outlined by OSHA, CFR 1910.120 and NFPA 472, 1997 Edition for the Operations Level.

Course Name: Hazardous Materials Decontamination

Career Track: Firefighter/Haz-Mat
Hours: 16
Description: This course is designed to provide Operations level personnel with the theory and practical application of decontamination as discussed during Hazardous Materials Operations. Information concerning responder decontamination at Structure Fires, and Chemical & Radiation Incidents, as well as Diver and equipment decontamination are discussed, with a practical exercise allowing hands-on use of the information provided during the classroom session.
Prerequisites: Hazardous Materials Operations, PPE, and SCBA or APR for Law Enforcement
Equipment Needs: Personal protective equipment, including SCBA
Class Size: 24 (minimums apply)

Course Name: Hazardous Materials Technician

Career Track: Firefighter/Haz-Mat
Hours: 80
Description: The course is designed to develop a level of competency that will allow the student, operating with other Technician-certified individuals, to approach the point of release in order to plug, patch, or otherwise stop a release. The course will also examine the concept of Incident Command to allow the Technician to be able to work effectively in such a system. The course is designed to meet the training responsibilities as outlined by OSHA, CFR 1910.120 and NFPA 472 1997 edition for the Technician Level.
Prerequisites: Hazardous Materials Operations, PPE, and SCBA
Equipment Needs: Personal protective equipment, including SCBA
Class Size: 24 (minimums apply)
