A Message from The New Hampshire Retirement System

1997 Statements Mailed to All Members
The New Hampshire Retirement System (NHRS) issues an annual Statement of Benefits to each of its members. (Retirees do not receive a Statement of Benefits.) The statement provides important account information, such as the amount of a member’s creditable service, the amount of contributions the member has paid into NHRS, and the interest earned on the member’s contributions.

The 1997 statements were mailed to all members in October, 1997. Members who did not have their current mailing address on file with NHRS as of June 30, 1997, would not have received a statement. They must notify NHRS of the address change and request that their statement be mailed to their new address. All address changes must be submitted to NHRS in writing. (NHRS’ mailing address is listed at the end of this article.) Members should keep in mind that notifying their employer of an address change is not enough; most employers do not forward their employees’ address changes to NHRS. Also, if a member’s mailing address changed with the 9-1-1 implementation, even though the member did not move, NHRS must still be notified of the change in writing.

Any members who did not have a change in their address but who still did not receive their 1997 Statement of Benefits should contact NHRS. They should call (603) 271-7843 and leave their name, their social security number, the name of their employer, and their daytime phone number on the recording. An NHRS representative will contact them by phone to let them know the status of their statement.

For more information about how to read and understand a Statement of Benefits, refer to the NHRS’ Timely Topics newsletter #21, pages 4-6, which provides a statement guide. All active members should have received a copy of the newsletter from their employers in Spring, 1997. Any specific questions about statements should be addressed with an NHRS representative by calling (603) 271-3351 or writing to New Hampshire Retirement System, 4 Chenell Drive, Concord, NH 03301-8509.
