Newbury Couple Arrested in Arson Case
NEWBURY – New Hampshire State Fire Marshal J. William Degnan, Newbury Police Chief Robert Lee, and Newbury Fire Chief Henry Thomas, announce that two arrests have been made in connection to a residential structure fire that occurred on June 9, 2014 on Stoney Brook Road in Newbury, NH.
Earlier today, investigators with the State Fire Marshal's Office arrested Douglas McCahon, age 58 and Rosemarie Digilio, age 47 both from Newbury, NH. McCahon was charged with one count of felony Arson, and one misdemeanor charge of Burning without a Permit. Digilio was charged with one count of felony Conspiracy to Commit Arson.
Following their arrests, bail was set in the Claremont Circuit Court. McCahon was ordered held on $5000 cash-only, and Digilio $10,000 personal recognizance. The couple was also ordered to have no contact with each other while awaiting trial. A Probable Cause hearing will be scheduled in the near future.
The State Fire Marshal's Office wishes to thank the Newbury Police and Fire Departments and the Plainfield Police Department for their assistance during the course of the investigation.
Fire Marshal Degnan would like to remind our citizens that arson is not a victimless crime, and that any intentionally set fire can jeopardize the safety of the public and our police and fire First Responders.
