The NH State Fire Marshal’s Office is charged by statute with ensuring compliance with the NH State Fire Code and the NH State Building Code through the review of plans prior to construction in the following types of projects:
- State owned property (not leased or rented).
- NH University System.
- County owned property (not leased or rented).
- Educational Occupancies, where state funds are allocated by the NH Department of Education's Office of Building Aid.
- Healthcare occupancies.
- In locations where there is no fire chief or local building/code official.
Projects other than the ones outlined above are the responsibility of the local authority having jurisdiction (AHJ) which will be the fire department or building department depending on the local rules and laws. As always, this office is available to those officials for specific questions and code clarifications.
When submitting plans to this office for review, please include a properly filled out Plan Review Submission Form. Once the plans are received we make every effort to have a preliminary review back to the submitter within four to six weeks. The plans are reviewed as they are received; if there are special circumstances, please be sure to call the office.
Fees: At this time there is no fee for plan review, inspections, or permits issued by the NH State Fire Marshal’s Office.
