The voluntary certification of Fire Protection Equipment Technicians was signed into law on May 24, 2004 and went into effect on January 1, 2005. The law established an advisory committee to assist the NH State Fire Marshal’s Office develop rules for the voluntary certification of contractors working in the following trades:
Portable Fire Extinguishers
Fixed Fire Extinguishing Systems
Automatic Fire Sprinkler Systems
Fire Alarm and Detection Systems
Rules are currently being developed for the implementation of the program. These rules will identify the training and testing curriculum to be used to determine the minimum qualifications for certification. It is hoped that these rules will be completed on or before the fall of 2007.
