The voluntary certification of Fire Protection Equipment Technicians was signed into law on May 24, 2004 and went into effect on January 1, 2005. The law established an advisory committee to assist the NH State Fire Marshal’s Office develop rules for the voluntary certification of contractors working in the following trades:

Portable Fire Extinguishers
Fixed Fire Extinguishing Systems
Automatic Fire Sprinkler Systems
Fire Alarm Systems

Rules are currently being developed for the implementation of the program. These rules will identify the training and testing curriculum to be used to determine the minimum qualifications for certification.

News and Events

The committee is very close to approving the initial proposal of rules for this program. Once approved, they will be sent to the State Fire Marshal and the Commissioner of the Department of Safety for their approval. A public hearing will be scheduled and the rules will go on to the Joint Legislative Committee on Adminstrative Rules for approval.
