The following information has been collected by the NH State Fire Marshal's Office from local communities on building collapses that have occurred in New Hampshire. Due to timing constraints the initial request for data was sent out to building officials, fire officials and local emergency management directors without a great detail of instruction. Therefore, the interpretation of definitions for some of the categories has been left to the local officials discretion. For example, it should be understood that the definition of occupied could be interpreted in a number of different ways. For the purposes of this survey, occupied means that the building is operating and is not vacant or abandoned. It does not necessarily mean that it was occupied with people at the time of the collapse. Viewers are further cautioned that some communities reported partial collapses and structural investigations, while others did not. We collected whatever was presented to us and are posting same. For more specific information on building collapse data, please contact the local officials from the particular town.
