News and Events

Potential Safety Hazard Exists with Generac Generator Installations
After a lengthy investigation, the Mechanical Safety Section has determined that a potential safety hazard may exist in some installations of stand-by generators manufactured by Generac under the Generac or Siemens brand names. Generac has been specifying an installation clearance of eighteen inches in the installation manual which is direct contrast to the minimum five (5) foot separation as required by NFPA 37 adopted as part of the NH State Fire Code. Since Generac failed to produce substantial evidence that their enclosure will provide the required fire resisitive separation, this office is notifying all code officials and potential customers that the minimum clearance from the generator to a combustible wall is five feet as per NFPA 37. For more information check out the Local Officials Notifictation Letter.

New Training Page Dedicated to Heating Technicians
A new web page has been developed to provide training resources for heating technicians. The advent of both mandatory and voluntary licensing programs concentrate on the importance of required continuing education. This page is dedicated to providing all heating technicians with valuable information from various sources. Check out the Training Resource Page

School Inspection On-line Reporting System
The new on-line school inspection reporting system has been released. Fire Departments wishing to meet the requirements of RSA 153:14 can submit their reports easily via our online reporting system. This system allows fire chiefs to comply with the law and quickly submit the necessary report for each school in their district. If you have questions about the new system, please feel free to contact the bureau staff. School Inspection Program Page

Building Collapse Data Collection System
A new online data collection system has been installed on our Web site for local officials to use to report building collapses. Although the bulk of the snow has receded, we are expecting more reports to come into the office as seasonal residences are inspected for the first time since last summer. The system was created as a result of the large snow fall amounts that we received in 2007-2008. If you are a local building official, fire official or emergency management director and have not received the access link, please contact our office at 223-4289.
