9-1-1 Stork Club

On Sunday, April 1, 2012, 9-1-1 Dispatcher Jen Bennert was inducted into the 9-1-1 Stork Club. Chris and Charmaine Martin of Newport, NH were expecting their fourth child. Charmaine had visited the hospital a few times in the week prior to her delivery with false labor. On Friday, February 24th, however, Charmaine knew the labor pains were the real thing. Chris and Charmaine loaded into their car at around 6:45 am and headed toward the hospital. About ten minutes into their forty minute drive to the hospital, however, Charmaine announced to Chris she wasn't going to make it; delivery was imminent. Chris dialed 9-1-1 on his cell phone; he provided his exact location. Dispatcher Bennert advised Chris to pull off to the side of the road and notified local dispatch to send the ambulance. Dispatcher Bennert immediately began giving medical instructions to Chris. Chris delivered his baby daughter, Avila, with the help of Dispatcher Bennert over the phone before the ambulance crew arrived on scene. The Martin family was thrilled to meet Dispatcher Bennert and celebrate Avila's unique entrance into the world. Dispatcher Bennert received a 9-1-1 Stork Club certificate and pink 9-1-1 Stork pin in honor of the special delivery. The Martins have agreed to send pictures of Avila to Dispatcher Bennert as she grows and bring her back for visits. Maybe she'll be a 9-1-1 dispatcher when she grows up!
