Financial Responsibility > Motor Vehicle Records

The Division of Motor Vehicles is required to keep personal information on drivers' records confidential pursuant to RSA 260:14. The information is only available to certain persons who need the information to conduct their businesses, such as law enforcement, insurance companies, government agencies, or the individual themselves. Persons requesting records are screened to see if they fall within one of the permissible user groups. Driving records, with or without personal information, may not be obtained without consent or appropriate permission.

The Bureau of Financial Responsibility (FR) administers and enforces motor vehicle statutes that have a direct effect on an individual's driving record history and the status of license/operating and vehicle registration privileges. It is the central site for data gathered from all law enforcement agencies, County, District, Superior and Circuit courts, and out-of-state motor vehicle registries. FR is responsible for receiving, processing, and maintaining records of all information entered into an individual's motor vehicle record to include:

  • Court convictions.
  • Traffic complaint/citation convictions.
  • Suspension/revocation actions.
  • Restoration dates.
  • Accident (crash) involvement.
  • Insurance requirement status.
  • Ignition interlock requirements.
