  • How do I know if I am eligible to renew online?
    • If you are in receipt of a renewal notice from the Division of Motor Vehicles with a RIN (Renewal Identification Number) in the upper left hand corner, you have been identified as eligible to renew online.

  • Are there any fees associated with the online renewal?
    • No additional credit card fees are associated with the online renewal process. The cost of obtaining your license online is the same as if you renewed in person.

  • What types/classes of licenses may be renewed online?
    • Only operators with motorcycle licenses are eligible to renew online.

  • My license has already expired; may I renew online?
    • You may renew your driver license online up to 30 days after your current license has expired.

  • What must I have to renew my license online?
    • The following items are needed:
      • The renewal notice sent to you from the Division of Motor Vehicles with the RIN (Renewal Identification Number).
      • Your current New Hampshire driver license.
      • A printer.
      • A valid credit card: MasterCard or Visa.

  • What is a RIN?
    • A RIN is a Renewal Identifical Number. A RIN is necessary to renew a license online.

  • I don’t see a RIN on my renewal letter. Where is it?
    • If a RIN is not on your renewal letter, it means you are not eligible to renew your driver license online. You must go to DMV to renew.

  • I lost my renewal letter. Can I call someone to get the RIN?
    • If your renewal letter is lost, you will have to go to DMV to renew your license.

  • I lost my renewal letter. Can someone else renew my license using the RIN which was on it?
    • No. They would need additional verification information to logon as you. This information is not contained in the Renewal Letter.

  • My temporary license did not print. What should I do?
    • Go to the nearest DMV to obtain a temporary license. There is no additional charge for this.

  • When will I get my "official license"?
    • Your "official license" should be mailed within 30 days.

  • I don’t have a printer. What can I do?
    • A printer is needed to print the temporary license at the end of the renewal process. If you do not have access to a printer, visit the DMV to renew your license.

  • Will I get a confirmation that my renewal has been processed?
    • The temporary license, which must be printed at the end of the renewal process, is confirmation.

  • Where will the license be sent?
    • Your permanent license will be mailed to your mailing address which is stored in the Division of Motor Vehicle’s database. Addresses cannot be changed online.

  • When will I receive my license?
    • You will receive your permanent license within 60 days of the license renewal confirmation date.

  • I have renewed online. How long is the temporary license valid?
    • The temporary license, which is printed at the end of the renewal process, is valid for 60 days from date of issuance. The permanent license, which will be mailed to you, is valid for the full renewal term of five (5) years.

  • How secure is the Web site I will be using to renew my driver license online?
    • The site is secure. All data is encrypted. The State of New Hampshire adheres to Payment Card Industry standards.

  • May I renew my license if I am currently out-of-state?
    • Yes, if eligible, you may renew your driver license while temporarily away from New Hampshire.

  • If I am a service member, State Department or Department of Defense employee on official orders, temporarily living in another state, may I renew my NH driver license online and have it sent to my current out-of-state address? Can my spouse do the same?
    • Yes. You will have to complete the renewal process with the valid mailing address which is stored in the DMV database. Once the renewal is complete, send a request to the DMV explaining the reason(s) why the license needs to be mailed out-of-state, and the address to which the license is to be sent. Mail your letter to:

  • Will I be required to get an eye exam for this renewal?
    • If you are eligible for the online renewal process, no vision examination is required. However, you will be required to certify that your vision has not significantly declined since your last license renewal.

  • I am over 75 years old. May I renew my license online?
    • If you are over 75 years of age at time of renewal, you will not be eligible to renew your driver license online.

  • I am going to be 21 years old, and I would like to have a regular license (not vertical). May I do this online?
    • If you receive a renewal letter with a RIN (Renewal Identification Number) you may renew online, BUT it does not guarantee you will receive a regular license. This is because licenses may be renewed up to three months prior to expiration. If you are under 21 at the time of online renewal, a vertical license will be mailed to you. The temporary license which will be printed at the end of the online renewal process will state YO for Youth Operator.

  • My license was just stolen. Can I get a duplicate license online?
    • Duplicate licenses are not available online. You must make application for a duplicate driver license in person at the Division of Motor Vehicles.

  • My CDL (Commercial Driver License) license is expiring. May I renew it online?
    • CDLs (Commercial Driver Licenses) may not be renewed online.

  • I am traveling out of the country and need to renew my license. Should I renew online?
    • If you are planning on traveling out of the country, you should renew your license as soon as possible. Permanent licenses are mailed to your legal home address within 60 days of renewal.
