If you are in receipt of a renewal notice from the Division of Motor Vehicles with a RIN (Renewal Identification Number) in the upper left hand corner, you have been identified as eligible to renew online.

No additional credit card fees are associated with the online renewal process. The cost of obtaining your license online is the same as if you renewed in person.

Only operators with motorcycle licenses are eligible to renew online.

You may renew your driver license online up to 60 days after your current license has expired.

The following items are needed:

  • The renewal notice sent to you from the Division of Motor Vehicles with the RIN (Renewal Identification Number).
  • Your current New Hampshire driver license.
  • A printer.
  • A valid credit card: MasterCard or Visa.

A RIN is a Renewal Identification Number. A RIN is necessary to renew a license online.

If a RIN is not on your renewal letter, it means you are not eligible to renew your driver license online. You must go to a DMV office to renew.

If your renewal letter is lost, you will have to visit DMV to renew your license.

No. They would need additional verification information to logon as you. This information is not contained in the Renewal Letter.

Go to the nearest DMV to obtain a temporary license. There is no additional charge for this.

A printer is needed to print the temporary license at the end of the renewal process. If you do not have access to a printer, visit the DMV to renew your license.

The temporary license, which must be printed at the end of the renewal process, is confirmation.

Your permanent license will be mailed to your mailing address which is stored in the Division of Motor Vehicle's database. Addresses cannot be changed online.

You will receive your permanent license within 60 days of the license renewal confirmation date.

I have renewed online. How long is the temporary license valid?

The temporary license, which is printed at the end of the renewal process, is valid for 60 days from date of issuance. The permanent license, which will be mailed to you, is valid for the full renewal term of five (5) years.

Yes, if eligible, you may renew your driver license while temporarily away from New Hampshire.

Yes. You will have to complete the renewal process with the valid mailing address which is stored in the DMV database. Once the renewal is complete, send a request to the DMV explaining the reason(s) why the license needs to be mailed out-of-state, and the address to which the license is to be sent. Mail your letter to:

If you are eligible for the online renewal process, no vision examination is required. However, you will be required to certify that your vision has not significantly declined since your last license renewal.

If you receive a renewal notification through the mail that contains a Renewal Identification Number, you are eligible to renew online.

If you receive a renewal letter with a RIN (Renewal Identification Number) you may renew online, BUT it does not guarantee you will receive a regular license. This is because licenses may be renewed up to three months prior to expiration. If you are under 21 at the time of online renewal, a vertical license will be mailed to you. The temporary license which will be printed at the end of the online renewal process will state YO for Youth Operator.

Duplicate licenses are not available online. You must make application for a duplicate driver license in person at the Division of Motor Vehicles.

If you are planning on traveling out of the country, you should renew your license as soon as possible. Permanent licenses are mailed to your legal home address within 60 days of renewal.
