Driver Licensing > Online Driver License Renewal

If you choose to renew online, your current license photo will be printed on your new license. There is no option to have a new photo taken when you renew online. You must have a renewal notice containing a "Renewal Identification Number (RIN)". If you cannot find your notice or if your renewal notice does not list a RIN, you are not eligible to renew online and you must renew in person at a DMV office. If you attempt to renew online and you get "locked out" by the system you will have to renew in person at a DMV office.

Online Renewal Requirements

Before starting your renewal, please review the following:

  1. You can only renew your own driver license. The online renewal system will ask you to certify that you are the license-holder.
  2. You must have a renewal notice with a 10-digit Renewal Identification Number (RIN) printed on it. You will be asked to enter the RIN as part of the renewal process.
  3. You must have your current driver license with you. You will be asked to enter your name, license number and the issue date as it appears on your current driver license. The issue date is printed on the back of your current license.
  4. Myths and Misconceptions About Organ DonationYou will be asked about organ donation. Please consider giving the "Gift of Life".
  5. You must have a MasterCard or Visa credit card for payment.
  6. You must be connected to a printer to print your temporary license. The printout, along with your current hard plastic license will serve as your "proof of license" until your new card is mailed to you. Your new license will be mailed to you within 60 days.
  7. Please note: For applicants applying for their 21st birthday, to ensure your permanent license is printed in a horizontal orientation, you should renew online no more than one week prior to your birthday.
