John D. Starr is president of Starr Construction, Inc. of Littleton, NH, a full service general contracting firm specializing in custom design, building and remodeling within a 30 mile radius of Littleton.
John enlisted in the US Marines in 1967, was commissioned in 1968 under the enlisted commissioning program, and served in Vietnam as a Platoon Commander and Rifle Company Commander 1969-70. He subsequently completed his education at Columbia University School of Engineering with a BS in Civil Engineering in 1974. He worked in Alaska on the Trans Alaskan Pipeline Project and subsequent oil field projects in Prudhoe Bay as an Engineer, Superintendent and Project Manager from 1974-1981. In 1981 he returned to NH and with his wife Maggie opened Starr Construction, Inc. which he continues to operate today with the help of his wife, son in law, and daughter. He has served in various positions and units with the NH National Guard from 1982 to 2005, culminating in a year long deployment in 2004 to Iraq as Brigade Command Sergeant Major 197th Field Artillery Brigade, Manchester NH.
John is a Member of Tau Beta Pi engineering honor society; Chair of the Board of Trustees of Littleton Regional Hospital Board of Trustees (formerly Vice Chair); Vice President of North Country Home Builders and Remodelers Association; represents the Home Builders and Remodelers Association of New Hampshire; Chair of the Building Committee for Habitat for Humanity Ammonoosuc Affiliate; former Chair of Profile School Board, former Scout Master troop 230, Bethlehem; former chair of the Bethlehem Redevelopment Association.
John earned the Certified Graduate Builder (CGB) and Certified Graduate Remodeler (CGR) designation from the National Association of Home Builders.
In his free time John enjoys skiing, hiking, and old cars.
