Ms. Cheryl Killam is the Code and Compliance Specialist for SFC Engineering Partnership, Inc., in Manchester, New Hampshire.
As the former Accessibility Specialist for the State of New Hampshire Governor’s Commission on Disability, Ms. Killam, an expert in the Americans with Disabilities Act, has over 20 years of experience in accessible design requirements, rights advocacy, and education (B.S., Secondary Education). She surveyed all district and superior courthouses, most state agencies, several state parks, and over 230 polling places and continues to provide technical assistance, code reviews and site surveys to state agencies, municipalities, architects, contractors, and code enforcement officials. Cheryl provides multi-media training on the Americans with Disabilities Act, accessibility standards, and disability awareness.
Cheryl served on the U.S. Access Board Courthouse Access Advisory Committee, co-edited “Justice for All: Designing Accessible Courthouses” and also served on the NH Citizens’ Commission on the Courts, contributing to their report, . She was the ADA liaison for the state’s Courts Accreditation Commission, the Voting Accessibility Task Force, the Public Water Access Advisory Board, and the Functional Needs Emergency Planning Group.
While employed at Community Developmental Services/Region 8 in Portsmouth, Cheryl held several roles, as a Human Rights Violations Complaint Investigator and Rights Trainer, and as the Community Access and Transportation Coordinator and the Disability Awareness Project Coordinator. She was a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor for the State of New Hampshire and was a permanent substitute teacher in mathematics and computer science for the Timberlane and Hampstead School Districts.
Ms. Killam is currently a member of the Architectural Barrier-Free Design Committee for the State of New Hampshire, the NH Developmental Disabilities Council, AIA-NH, the NH Building Officials Association, the NH Seacoast Code Officials Association, and the International Code Council.
