Granite State Scholars Program,


Law (RSA 188-D:36-42)
Administrative Rules (Pos 1300 and Ed 800)

Purpose:   Provide the incentive for highly qualified NH residents to pursue study at NH public institutions and to provide an incentive for NH public institutions to establish endowments for the purpose of providing need-based scholarships to eligible students.

Eligibility Criteria:   Be a NH resident; be designated as a Granite State Scholar; demonstrate financial need as determined by the federal formula; be an undergraduate student with no previous bachelor's degree; attend an eligible NH public college or university.

Q:   How can I be designated as a Granite State Scholar?
A:   The NH Department of Education requests a list from all NH high schools (both public and private) of their students who are in the top 10% of the graduating class and have combined SAT I scores of 1200 (currently math and reading comprehension) or and equivalent ACT score.
Q:   If I am home schooled, can I still be designated as a Granite State Scholar?
A:   Yes, as long as you have qualifying ACT Assessment examination or SAT I scores.
Q:   What NH public institutions make Granite State Scholars awards?
A:   Currently, the University of New Hampshire, Keene State College and Plymouth State University have established endowments and make awards to designated scholars.
Q:   Do I have to notify the college or university of my designation?
A: No, the institution is notified of all students who receive the Granite State Scholar designation.
Q:   How do I apply for a Granite State Scholarship?
A:   Check with the financial aid office at the college or university that you plan to attend for how you should apply at that institution.
