 Colleges & Universities

Choosing a College Or University

There are four reasons students choose a particular college or university: location, academic major, size and cost. While students can find this information on a web site, it may not provide them with a sense of "institutional fit." For this reason, it is essential that students visit schools, talk to professors, see the student body, and get a sense for the school location. Colleges and universities also want an "institutional fit" as those students who "fit" are more likely to be successful.

Students are also encouraged to visit the NH Higher Education Assistance Foundation (NHHEAF) Network Center for College Planning, dedicated to providing students and families with valuable information about the college planning process - from savings options and college admissions requirements to applying for financial aid and scholarships. The Center serves all student populations: traditional, continuing education, graduate and adult learner, offering college planning materials and coordinating speakers for schools, businesses and community organizations free of charge. Individual college and financial aid counseling is provided in their Concord office with the goal of promoting higher education as the means to achieving personal, career and life goals. Telephone: 1-800-525-2577 www.nhheaf.org

With the importance of education in today’s competitive market, attending a college, university or career school that has met basic quality standards is essential. And with more and more new educational opportunities available, it is important for students to exercise consumer awareness. Also see Accreditation/Diploma Mill information.
