APA PAS #384. Bookin and Epstein. Regulating Radio and TV Towers, June, 1984. Satellite/Communication Towers Summary Two uses of land that sometimes compete for space are communication towers and residential developments. Although they seem unlikely neighbors, hilly areas are popular for both uses because of their height above other lands which ensure clear transmission and because of spectacular views. However, this report points out potential health and safety problems with the location of transmission towers near residential areas if not properly situated. It explains the technical language and background of communication towers and reviews state and federal regulations governing their design. Included also is an example of a local ordinance and information on how to prepare a tower ordinance.
