What is Mitigation?
Mitigation in New Hampshire
FEMA's Hazard Mitigation Assistance(HMA) grant programs provide funding for eligible mitigation activities that reduce disaster losses and protect life and property from future disaster damages. Currently, FEMA administers the following HMAgrant programs.
- Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) - grants to implement long-term hazard mitigation measures after a major disaster declaration.
- Pre-Disaster Mitigation Program (PDM) - nationally competitive grants for hazard mitigation planning and the implementation of mitigation projects prior to a disaster event.
- Flood Mitigation Assistance (FMA) - grants that reduce or eliminate the long-term risk of flood damage to buildings insurable under the NFIP.
- Repetitive Flood Claims (RFC) - grants for projects that are demonstrated to be non-fundable under the FMA grant and that reduce flood damages to NFIP-insured properties that have had one or more claims.
- Severe Repetitive Loss (SRL) - to reduce or eliminate the long-term risk of flood damage to severe repetitive loss structures insured under the NFIP.
FEMA's HMA grants are provided to eligible Applicants (States/Tribes/Territories) that, in turn, provide subgrants to local governments and communities. The Applicant selects and prioritizes subapplications developed and submitted to them by subapplicants. These subapplications are submitted to FEMA for consideration of funding.
