[Historical fuel price information will resume upon completion of the new OEP website. For fuel price data questions and historical information, please contact Steve.Walker@nh.gov.]

Note that the prices that OEP publishes each week are averages and therefore might be different than your local price. For more information about how prices can be affected by various factors please see our Deliverable Fuels Pricing page. For self-reported prices by company for oil and kerosene, visit the New England Oil site.

* The pricing information is presented in per/BTU format in order to give consumers an idea of the true cost of the fuel per unit of heat. A gallon of oil, when burned, will produce a different amount of heat than a ton of wood. If you are wondering what the cost savings might be if you were to switch to a different fuel type for heating your home, the US Energy Information Administration has produced a calculator.

** The price of firewood sold by the cord can vary widely depending on the location, time of year and quality of the wood being sold. The cost shown here is just an estimate to allow for a general comparision to other forms of energy.

Price data collected by the Office of Energy and Planning

The State Heating Oil and Propane Program (SHOPP) monitors residential retail prices for heating oil and propane to determine the average prices for these fuels in New Hampshire. This program conducts weekly price surveys on Mondays from October through March. As an adjunct to the SHOPP program, OEP also monitors kerosene, gasoline and diesel fuel prices in conjunction with the weekly SHOPP surveys. From April to September, OEP monitors these heating and motor fuels prices monthly. OEP also monitors electricity and natural gas prices monthly throughout the year.

The Office of Energy and Planning does not project or estimate future energy prices. The US Energy Information Agency provides forecasts and analyses of energy prices and their Short Term Energy Outlook can change monthly. Also, please see the Deliverable Fuels Pricing page regarding the pricing of propane, fuel oil, kerosene, diesel fuel and gasoline (so-called "deliverable fuels").
