General: OEP Quick Tips |
- Much energy and expense can be saved at no cost simply by changing behaviors. For example, dress for the weather, indoors and out. Wearing lightweight, natural-fiber clothing doesn't cost extra; extra air conditioning does. Turning off lights when not in use saves electricity directly as well as indirectly by reducing the waste heat that a fan or air conditioner would have to remove from the building.
- Make conservation a "family affair" by getting everyone involved in energy-saving activities.
- Tracking the money and energy you save can be a reward in itself. The dollar savings can also be used to reward the family's effort in some way, and/or invested in an energy-related project such as purchase of more efficient appliances or renewable energy installations.
- For new construction and renovations, comply with the New Hampshire residential energy code.
