Governor Recognizes that Weatherization Works!
Governor Lynch has issued a proclamation announcing that Monday, October 30, 2006 will be known throughout the state as "Weatherization Day". The dedication of this day as Weatherization Day celebrates the accomplishments of the New Hampshire Weatherization Assistance Program, which produces energy savings and reduced air emissions for over 1,000 homes throughout the state each year.
Every day men and women in the NH Weatherization program work hard to ensure that thousands of NH’s lower income households receive benefits that will help reduce their energy burden and improve health and safety in their homes. Not only are these individuals within the program working for the benefit of NH residents, they are also helping reduce America’s dependence on foreign oil one home at a time.
Federal Recognition
Each year, October is designated as Energy Awareness Month. The Department of Energy uses the onset of winter to promote energy conservation, renewable energy and new technology use in the energy industry. With low-income households particularly susceptible to fluctuating energy prices, celebrating and recognizing a successful conservation program like the Weatherization Program is extremely important to everyone.
Program Background
Serving as the nation’s core program for delivering energy efficiency services to low-income households, the DOE Weatherization Program prioritizes the elderly, persons with disabilities, and households with children. Each year, tens of thousands of households experience improved energy efficiency, as well as, financial and health and safety gains through the services provided by the Program.
Technical Capabilities
The Weatherization Program’s professionally trained energy auditors and crews use advanced diagnostic equipment to identify energy saving strategies in single family, multi-family, and mobile homes. Cost effective weatherization measures and those that are essential for health and safety are then performed, including, but not limited to, installation of insulation, air sealing measures, and heating system repairs or retrofits. The Weatherization Program serves every county in the nation through its partnerships with local agencies.
