Nursing Practice

The Nurse Practice Act Page provides information on the RSA 326-B which is the legislative law that defines a number of focuses that includes but is not limited to nursing scope of practice, functions of the board of nursing and the executive director, licensing, nurse delegation, disciplinary processes and continuing competence. This also addresses the Chapter Rules 100-800 that correspond and expand on what is written in the law.

Please Note: There is a 30 day comment period before the board finalizes the Clinical Advisory White Paper. Please review the following questions reviewed by the Board and email your comments to boardquestions@nursing.state.nh.us.

 

Question: Is it within RN scope of practice to administer agitated saline and contrast for Bubble studies?
Answer: Board consensus that it is within RN scope of practice to administer agitated saline and contrast for Bubble studies with competency and policy to support practice.

Question: Is it within LNA scope of practice to apply Buck's Traction Boot?
Answer: Board affirmed that it is NOT within LNA scope of practice to apply Buck's Traction Boot because of need for assessment to accurately judge proper application and alignment of traction.

Question: Is it within LNA scope of practice to empty JP drains in home care setting?
Answer: Board consensus that it is within LNA scope of practice to empty JP drains with competency and policy to support practice.

Question: Is it within RN scope of practice to independently perform history and exam portions of established patient office visit?
Answer: Board consensus that RN cannot perform medical exam, but can obtain history and do head to toe nursing assessment of client. Performing medical exam is under auspices of APRN, not RN.
