DVS By Mail

If you stopped borrowing our DVS videos because getting to your public library was too difficult - or if you never even tried - here's your chance! Thanks to the many generous contributors to the Shieling Trust, our gift fund, we have purchased 25 special videotape mailing containers. Our DVS collection is now as convenient as our book collection.

The list of videos, and the lending policy, are on the enclosed sheet. Every new reader will receive a copy, too.

If more of you borrow these videos, we will be able to consider buying more titles.

AND -

We are also using Sheiling funds to purchase a "Reading Edge" reading machine for the State Library's Reference Room. By early March, those of you who want to do your own research will be able to have access to this excellent reference collection by walking in the front door of the State Library at 20 Park Street in Concord. We were able to purchase a gently-used machine through the NHAAT Recycled Equipment Marketplace.

DVS Home Videos

Available on free loan to readers registered with the NHSL Talking Book Service. Call 1-800-491-4200 to request service.

To enjoy these Descriptive Videos with their speciall added narration of actions, backgrounds, appearances and costumes, you need only a regular VHS video cassette player (VCR) connected to a standard televison set. No special feature or device is necessary.

Many of these videos are also closed-captioned for the convenience of viewers with hearing impairments. A special decoder is needed to display these captions.

Because of the limited collection, we will lend no more that two videos to an individual at one time.

Videos are sent by mail as Free Matter in special containers with reinforcing rubber bands. If you need assistance opening or closing these special containers, please call 1-800-491-4200 during regular business hours, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Videos are loaned for One Month, door-to-door. The mailing card will show the shipping date in the upper left corner. Please allow for 10 days mailing time when you return a video. Turn the mailing card over and put it back in the plastic sleeve on the container in order to return the video - it's the same method used to return talking books.

Not for group or class use.
These videos are licensed for home viewing only.
