IN REMEMBRANCE

John Joseph Hallahan, 80, of Manchester, N.H. died Saturday, June 14, 2008 at Villa Crest Nursing and Retirement Home. He was born August 12, 1927 in Dorchester, MA, the son of Jeremiah and Helen (Fitzgerald) Hallahan. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Mr. Hallahan graduated from Boston College and completed a Masters Degree in Library Science at Simmons College. In 1951 he moved to Norwalk, CT and from 1955 to 1966 was the director of the Norwalk Public Library and in 1963 was voted Man of the Year for his community involvement.

He moved to Manchester and was the director of the Manchester City Library for 25 years and was instrumental in setting up the computer system for the library, developing the West Side Branch and the formation of the Manchester Inter-Library Cooperative. Mr. Hallahan was on the Board of Directors for the American Red Cross, the VNA and the New Hampshire Chess Association where he had competed nationally. Following his retirement he traveled the world.

Mr. Hallahan is survived by his wife Julia E. (Sarjeant) Hallahan of Manchester, children, Frances "Frank" B. Hallahan and his wife Sharon of Falls Church, VA, Bill I. Hallahan and his wife Pam Triest-Hallahan of Nashua, N.H., Gerry J. Hallahan and wife Ann of Hooksett, N.H., Marie G. Patrick and her husband Steven of Concord, N.H. and Tom G. Hallahan of Manchester, sister Eileen Hallahan of Brookfield, MA, nine grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son Raymond in 1957, a brother Frank Hallahan and two sisters, Sister Marie Margaret Hallahan and Margie Hurley. The family wishes to acknowledge and thank the Staff of Villa Crest for their loving care.

Burial was with military honors at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen, N.H. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be sent to the American Red Cross, 1800 Elm Street, Manchester, N.H. 03104.

 

Patricia A. Lindner, 44, of North Main Street, Boscawen, died the evening of Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at Concord Hospital.

She was born July 6, 1963 in Canadaigua, N.Y., the daughter of the late Raymond J. and Jacqueline M. (Osbourne) Lindner. She grew up in Bowie, Md. , and was a graduate of Bowie Senior High School, Class of 1981. She has been a resident of Boscawen for 14 years, coming there from Dallas.

At the time of her death, she was employe at the N.H. State Library under the title of Library Assistant II.

Survivors include her brother Gregory J. Lindner of Orlando, Fla.; sisters Deborah S. Grassi of Carrolton, Texas, Donna M. Holian of Boscawen, Kelly A. Hamilton of Weatherford, Texas, and Jennifer M. Mariano, of Del Ray Beach Fla.; and nephews and nieces Robert J. Holian of Antwerp, N.Y., Nicholas Grassi and Anthony Grassi, both of Carrolton, Lydia Grassi of Lubbock, Texas, Sophia Mariano and Isabella Mariano both of Del Ray Beach and Ruby J. Hamilton of Weatherford. She is also survived by her beloved puppy, Pavlova.

There were no calling hours. Friends were invited to a memorial service on Wednesday, June 4, 2008 at the N.H. State Library.

Because of Patricia's love of animals, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the N.H. Humane Society, PO Box 572, Laconia, N.H. 03247.

The Dewhirst Funeral Home, 1061 Union Avenue, Laconia assisted the family.
