Concord Reads is the "one community, one book" program supported by the Concord Public Library Foundation, the Concord Monitor and the Concord Public Library.
In this seventh year of Concord Reads, we're asking members of the Concord community to read the nonfiction book Animal, Vegetable, Miracle: A Year of Food Life by author Barbara Kingsolver, with Steven L. Hopp and Camille Kingsolver. In this book Kingsolver chronicles the year she and her family ate only locally produced food, much of which they grew or raised themselves. Her husband adds sidebars with factual information about topics touched upon in the book, and her college-age daughter provides family recipes for planning seasonal eating.
The Reads committee is planning several fall programs which will be free and open to the public. We will start off with an evening book discussion led by Suzanne Brown on Monday, September 8th at 7:00 p.m. in the Concord Public Library Auditorium and a lunchtime brown bag book discussion on Thursday, September 11th. You may follow our progress in planning this year's events at the Concord Public Library website - www.onconcord.com/library.
We are excited to have several community partners planning complementary events. In addition, the Lincoln Financial Foundation has awarded the committee a grant to help fund the 2008 programs. |
