Ellen Knowlton, the Head of Reference and Adult Services at the Merrimack Public Library, was presented with the READS Award of Excellence on October 26, 2007. READS is the Reference and Adult Services Section of the N.H. Library Association. The READS Award of Excellence is given once a year and recognizes outstanding service to library users.
Knowlton's main responsibilities include answering questions and assisting the public in locating and interpreting library resources. She is responsible for maintaining the library's Nonfiction, Reference and Periodical collections and for planning many of the evening programs, too. Her commitment to providing the Merrimack residents (library users) with the highest quality customer service was one of the many factors on which the award was made.
Before joining the staff of the Merrimack Public Library, Knowlton's career spanned 30 years across several towns in southern New Hampshire. Previously she has served as a Technical Services Librarian at the Leach Library in Londonderry, as the Assistant Director in the Peterborough Town Library, and as Director of both the Derry and Exeter Public Libraries.
