In January the Hillsborough County Probate Court approved a settlement agreement in the matter of the closing and sale of the Chandler Memorial Branch Library by the trustees of the Nashua Public Library.
The library is free to sell the building to a buyer who agrees to use it for a charitable purpose serving community needs, to preserve its historic structure, and to maintain the Chandler name.
Proceeds to fund renovations: The proceeds from the sale will enable the library to renovate the East Wing of the main building, which currently houses biographies. Plans for the space include a new genealogy and local history room, more meeting rooms for community groups, quiet-study rooms, and a new reference area.
The design of part of the space will reflect the Victorian style of the Chandler Memorial Library. The space will be renamed the Chandler Memorial Wing, in honor of the family of Mabel Chandler, who left the building to the library in 1959. |
