IN REMEMBRANCE

Kathleen Bennett Taylor, 89, died October 3, 2005 at Exeter Hospital after a brief illness.

Born in Adams, MA, on June 27, 1916, she was the eldest daughter of Delor and Josephine (Belleau) Bennett.

Kay, as she was known, graduated from the High School of Commerce in Springfield, MA, in 1934, and worked at the Massachusetts Mutual Insurance Company until she married in 1941.

She studied at Bay Path Junior College and the University of New Hampshire, majoring in public library techniques, and received her library certificate in August 1964. She was librarian of the Gilford Library from 1959 to 1963. She was active in the Gilford Outing Club, the N.H. League of Women Voters, the PTA, the Cub Scouts and the St. James Episcopal Church Sunday School

From 1964 to 1978, she was director of the Peterborough Town Library and was Librarian of the Year in New Hampshire in 1975.

In 1976, she was appointed to the N.H. Advisory Council of Libraries and was appointed user representative of the council in 1978. From 1964 to 1978, she was on the Southwest District Advisory Council, serving as chair in 1971 and 1972. She was a member of the N.H. Library Association. From 1976 to 1978, she was a reporter for the Granite State Libraries, a N.H. State Library bi-monthly publication. From 1964 to 1978 she was a weekly columnist for the "Library Corner" in the Peterborough Transcript. She also wrote occasionally for the North Country Libraries, the Monadnock Ledger and the Keene Sentinel.

She was married to Scott Fernley Taylor of Springfield, MA, on May 10, 1941, in Springfield. She is survived by her three sons: William Taylor and his wife, Lisa, of Taos, N.M., Allen Taylor and his wife, Nancy, of Newfields, and Kenneth Taylor of Nagoya, Japan; her younger sister, Shirley Beausoleil and her husband, Howard of Falmouth Forsyth, Maine. Her husband of 55 years and her only brother, Wallace Bennett, are deceased.
