READS ILL WORKSHOP
by Brian Hackert, Reference Librarian
Peterborough Town Library

In early spring, READS held three interlibrary loan workshops called Where there's a w-ILL, there's a way," and the Tracy Memorial Library in New London hosted the April 1st gathering, attended by about 50 librarians.

The program followed an outline established by the READS moderators, and reflected the basic order of the ILL process, from taking patron requests to renewing ILL's. Librarians asked and answered questions among each other in a casual atmosphere, and those with experience in certain areas provided background information and advice to foster successful interlibrary loan services everywhere.

New Hampshire librarians strive toward cooperation and communication, and interlibrary loan work represents the epitome of teamwork between all our institutions. Workshop attendees congratulated READS on the ILL workshop event, and expressed interest in future READS workshops, in which the same format can be utilized and address more library issues.

Keep an eye out for our next program, and also for our first annual presentation of the newly established READS Award of Excellence. If there is a library person that you feel contributed significantly to any aspect of public service, then please send us your nomination by August 1, 2005.
