REFERENCE / YOUNG ADULT LIBRARIAN
The Merrimack Public Library has a full-time opening in its active Reference Department for a Reference/Young Adult librarian. The library seeks an excited, motivated, outgoing individual to join its staff in serving this southern New Hampshire community of approximately 28,000 people.
Duties include: Planning, managing and providing all services and programs to young adults (ages 12-18); Selecting materials for the young adult collection within a budget; Assisting with selection of materials for non-fiction and reference collections; Providing reference and readers' advisory service to all ages; Assisting the public with the use of print and electronic library resources; Teaching databases, Internet classes, etc.; Overseeing and troubleshooting public PCs and their use; Promoting library use through contact with the public, local organizations, the school district, and professional library associations.
Qualifications: An ALA accredited MLS. Degree candidate considered, depending on experience; Minimum one year's experience in reference and/or young adult services; Experience in creating dynamic programs for young adults; Familiarity with current young adult literature; Strong commitment to customer service; In-depth knowledge of print and electronic reference materials; Confidence with computers and their applications; Availability to work 40 hours per week including some evenings and rotating weekends; Experience with Dynix Horizon a plus.
