Lincoln Public Library - HAPPY BIRTHDAY! LINCOLN PUBLIC LIBRARY. The Lincoln Public Library will be 100 years old on May 2, 2005. The Board of Trustees is planning to celebrate this historic event on May 14, 2005 with a presentation of a plaque for the names of the Librarians who have been custodians of the cultural wealth of the community for the past century. The vision and foresight of Mrs. Eliza Henry to establish a public library in Lincoln has endured and flourished into a wonderful community asset.

Nashua Public Library - The Nashua Public Library was recently selected to receive 12 documentary videos on human rights, as part of the Human Rights Video Project. The library plans to show a number of these films in its theater in conjunction with other human rights programming in September 2005.

  • Colleges, churches, schools, libraries, and advocacy organizations are encouraged to borrow them and use them in their own programming. To do so, call Carol Eyman at (603) 589-4610. Individual library cardholders can also borrow the videos.
  • Developed by National Video Resources in partnership with the American Library Association Public Programs Office, the Human Rights Video Project was created to increase public awareness of human rights issues. Major funding was provided by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation and the Ford Foundation.
  • On Sunday, April 10th, at 2:00 p.m., the library will celebrate National Library Week with the opening of its new entryway and an afternoon of special events.
  • The new entryway includes glass doors that are handicapped accessible, easy to open, energy efficient, and quiet. It extends further on to the outdoor library plaza than previously, adding space to the area around the front desk and alleviating crowding as customers line up to check out their materials. It also allows space for some cafe tables and chairs where customers can enjoy a snack or a cup of coffee.
  • The afternoon's events include a concert by the Irish singing duo Shannachie; a reception for artist Leslie Lambert Redhead, whose watercolors are currently featured in the library's Image Gallery; and the Children's Room's Sunday Family Storytime.
  • In honor of his spring shows at the Currier Gallery of Art and the N.H. Institute of Art, painter James Aponovich will present a slideshow and survey of 30 years of his work at the library on Thursday, April 21st, at 7:00 p.m. Aponovich, a Nashua native, has works in the permanent collections of the Boston Museum of Fine Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Nashua Public Library.
