IN REMEMBRANCE

Ellen Stiles, 89, of Center Strafford, died November 25, 2004 after a long illness. She was born in Antrim on November 5, 1915, the daughter of Lewis and Frances (Weed) Brown, and moved to Center Strafford as a young child. She graduated from Austin-Cate Academy in 1934 and the University of New Hampshire in 1938. The following year she married her husband, Walton Stiles.

She was an active member of the Third Baptist Church in Center Strafford. She served on many boards and committees, taught Sunday school and was treasurer for nearly 40 years. She had also served several terms as a trustee of the American Baptist Churches of New Hampshire. Always an avid reader, she became the librarian at Hill Library in 1977, a position she held for 10 years. She was a founding member of the Strafford Women's Club and was a member of the Grange for more than 60 years.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Walton Stiles, and her daughter and husband, Gail and Michael Barry; two grandsons, four great granddaughters, nephew and sister-in-law all of Center Strafford; and several cousins.
