The essays in this memoir pick out different events and people who influenced the author's life and writing. Included are pieces about working in an ice manufacturing plant in his early years; his marriage to Dina, a survivor of Auschwitz; his Jewish heritage; his presence at John F. Kennedy's funeral; his thoughts on civil rights. Abelson, a resident of Concord, N.H., was an Associated Press reporter, press secretary to U.S. Senator Tom McIntyre, and newspaper columnist. He presently conducts workshops on poetry and memoir writing.

Ball, Benjamin L. THREE DAYS ON THE WHITE MOUNTAINS, BEING THE PERILOUS ADVENTURE OF DR. B.L. BALL ON MOUNT WASHINGTON
Equipped with little more than an overcoat, a borrowed hat and umbrella, Dr. Ball survived three days and nights on Mount Washington in winter-like conditions in 1855. Originally published in 1856, this reprint includes an article on his ordeal that first appeared in the December 1931 edition of Appalachia.
