POETRY SOCIETY OF NEW HAMPSHIRE NATIONAL CONTESTS

The Poetry Society of New Hampshire sponsors four National Contests open to all poets, members or not. Judges for the contests are not members of the Poetry Society of New Hampshire. Prizes are awarded to four places, 1st place - $100; 2nd place, $50; and 3rd and 4th places - $25 each. Winning poems will be published in our quarterly magazine, The Poets Touchstone, and winning poets will receive one copy of the issue in which their poems appear. Rights revert to the author after publication.

  • Guidelines for May Contest. SASE for guidelines on others.
  • Entries that do not meet the guidelines will not be considered or returned.
  • Poems must be postmarked by May 15th.
  • Subject and form are open.
  • Line length limited to 30 lines.
  • One poem per page.
  • Poems must be typed.
  • Two copies of each poem, one with NO identification (no name, no address), the other with the name and address in the upper right corner.
  • SASE for winners list only. Poems will not be returned.
  • Entry fee is $3 for the first poem, and $1 each for others. Entries limited to 5 poems per poet per contest.
  • Poems must not be previously published, have won a prize of more than $10, nor be currently entered in another contest.
  • Poems must be postmarked by the deadline date. Deadlines are: May 15th, August 15th, November 15th, and February 15th, 2003.

MANNINGHAM STUDENT POETRY AWARDS FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

  • Ten poems from each state are considered for the National Contests, which awards prizes to ten places: 1st - $75; 2nd - $50; 3rd - $40; 4th - $35, and five honorable mentions at $10 each. Winning poems will be published by the NFSPS in booklet form, and winners will receive a complimentary copy.
  • Poems may have been previously published in school or state anthologies, and may have won prizes.
  • Students can only entry through a qualifying event.

Rules for Poetry Society of New Hampshire Qualifying Contest

  • This competition is open to all students attending high school in New Hampshire.
  • Prepare two copies of each poem, one with your name, school address and grade. The second copy with no identification.
  • On the student copy, the one with your name etc., you must certify that your submission is original and has not been copied in whole or in part from any other author's work, including poems posted on the internet.
  • Each poem should be neatly typed or computer-generated and no more than fifty lines. If the poem is longer than one page, staple the second page to the first.
  • Please no illustrations or unusual type fonts (for example, gothic or script).
  • Please include a #10 SASE with your entry, and $1 per poem entered.
  • Each of the state winners will receive a prize of $10 and each winning poem will be published in The Poet's Touchstone and entered in the National Contest. National winners will be announced in May 2003.
  • Entries must be postmarked by December 21, 2002 to be considered.
  • We cannot be responsible for lost or delayed by the mail. No poems will be returned. Entries that do not follow the guidelines will be neither considered nor returned.
