Saturday, May 4 - One Woman's Work: The Visual Art of Celia Laighton Thaxter. Exhibition opening and lecture given by exhibition curator Sharon Stephan of Hollis, N.H., following the 179th annual meeting of the N.H. Historical Society. A popular woman poet of late 19th-century America, Celia Thaxter inspired an artists and writers colony at the Isles of Shoals. On view at Tuck Library from May 4th through October 19th, the exhibition was organized by the Portsmouth Athenaeum and the Isles of Shoals Historical and Research Association (ISHRA), with support from the Greater Piscataqua Community Foundation and the Rosamond Thaxter Foundation.
