In the foreword, Hilary Cleveland, Chairman of the New History Committee, remarks that living in New London is her idea of Heaven. The author, Anne Page Stecker, tells the story of progress and change; the decline of farming; the highway threatening to split the town in half; the development of a regional school system; the Colby Junior College for women becoming a co-education Colby-Sawyer College; the town's passion for the beauty of the land. An appendix provides biographical records of over 3,000 families living in New London during this time period.
