On September 30, 1999, I was pleased to host 36 librarians from all over New Hampshire for a visit at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. The participants came from all over the state, representing public and private schools, universities, town libraries, and a law library. Dr. James Billington, the Librarian of Congress, addressed the group and acquainted them with resources available through the National Digital Library program.

This event provided a unique opportunity for New Hampshire's librarians to familiarize themselves with the special resources available to them at the Library of Congress, and to learn how to help others in their communities to use these resources.
