The Barrington Public Library would like to announce the receipt of $8,000 given by Thelma E. Swain and Virginia E. Swain which will establish an endowment in memory of Roy, Mattie, and Vernon Swain. The funds are to be invested and the income used to enhance educational opportunities for the youth of the community of Barrington at the discretion of the Librarian and the Library Board of Trustees. The Swain family has a long history of supporting public interests in the Town of Barrington. Mattie and Roy Swain served on the Barrington Public Library Association for over 15 years and left funds to the library upon their deaths.

An anonymous give of $5,000, in thanksgiving of the Keefe family of Barrington, has also been received by the library to be used in the purchase of materials and furnishings for the new children's room. The children's area, slated to be constructed this upcoming April, is part of a library renovation project that will increase the size of the library by almost 50%. The library will now be able to increase programming and services to better reflect the growing needs of the community. The funds from this generous donation will allow the library to purchase furnishings, technology, and other amenities not included in the construction Warrant Article that is to be voted on this upcoming March. The library staff and Trustees are hopeful that these donations will spur others to join us in the refurbishing of our facilities whether it be through private donations in support of the project or a positive vote for the upcoming warrant article.

The Library would like to thank these generous donors for their thoughtfulness and dedication to the cause of public libraries. The library welcomes gifts of any amount in support of the upcoming project, as additions to already existing trust funds, or for the establishment of new Trust Funds.
