YORK NAMED NEW HAMPSHIRE STATE LIBRARIAN
Michael York, Administrator of Library Operations at the New Hampshire State Library, was named New Hampshire State Librarian on April 28, 1999 succeeding Kendall Wiggin who resigned to assume the top post at the Connecticut State Library. York, who also served as the first Director of the Library and Archives of New Hampshire's Political Traditions, worked previously as Director of the Library at Colby-Sawyer College and as Interim University Librarian at the University of New Hampshire for 1991 to 1996. He served as President of the New England Library Association ,1989 and is the current President of the New Hampshire Library Association.
When asked about his appointment York said, "I am very proud to serve as the State Librarian of New Hampshire. The outstanding staff at the State Library work very hard to see that the citizens of New Hampshire get the best library services possible. It is great to be part of that effort."
Van McLeod, Commissioner of Cultural Resources said, "I was very pleased to put Michael's name in nomination for the position of New Hampshire State Librarian. He has shown exceptional leadership qualities in the State Library and has an excellent vision of where the library community can go in the future. I look forward to working with him."
Mr. York holds an MBA from Plymouth State College an MLS from Louisiana State University, and a BA from the University of New Hampshire. He lives in Goffstown with his wife Carol and son Bradley. |
