NATIONAL AWARD FOR LIBRARY SERVICE
The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) is an independent Federal grantmaking agency serving the public by strengthening museum and libraries. IMLS has established a new annual national award for libraries. It will be known as the National Award for Library Service. This award will celebrate outstanding American libraries that make significant and exceptional contributions to their communities.
Nominations for the 2000 competition are being accepted now. Individuals are encouraged to submit nominations for libraries of all types and sizes. The main criterion for selection is the library's community service. Examples include achievements such as creating programs that address current social and economic issues, attracting new audiences, and fostering partnerships with other community organizations. November 20, 1999 is the deadline for nominations. Guidelines and information is available at the IMLS website, http://www.imls.gov or by calling (202) 606-8637. |
