FAMILY HISTORIES LOCATED IN NEW HAMPSHIRE

In compiling this exceptional aid for ancestor hunters conducting research in New Hampshire, Richard Rollock called most public libraries in the Granite State plus a substantial number of school and private libraries. The object of his visits was the production of a directory of all the family histories housed in New Hampshire libraries. While there are omissions in his directory, Rollock's commendable efforts have produced the most comprehensive source available for discovering the location of this type of genealogical resource in New Hampshire repositories. It should be noted that the volumes listed in this directory are not limited to New Hampshire families, but also pertain to progenitors in other parts of the country with a heavy emphasis on New England ancestries.

While the most extensive collections of books of this genre are on the shelves of the N.H. State Library, the N.H. Historical Society, the in-state universities, and the larger public libraries such as those in Nashua, Manchester, and Keene, Mr. Rollock quickly learned that it is not uncommon for a small library's collection to include a title that cannot be found in any other library in the state. For example, the Sandwich High School Library's collection is the only one in New Hampshire in which the family history aficionado will find the 344 page Legends of the Haddock Family.

In the opinion of this reviewer Rich Rollock's Family Histories Located in New Hampshire is an absolute must for any library in the Granite State whether it's collection of family histories consists of several thousand volumes or a single book. If the local library cannot offer a patron access to a certain family history, the librarian can inform that patron whether or not the desired volume is on the shelves of any library in the state. When this directory was published in 1995 it sold for $29.95 plus $4.00 postage and handling. For the current price contact Mr. Rollock at Family History Directory, P.O. Box 1172, Laconia, N.H. 03247. Even if the cost of this directory has increased, this resource would be a bargain at twice the 1995 price.
