NEW DIRECTOR AT URI
The Graduate School of Library and Information Studies at the University of Rhode Island is awaiting the arrival of the school's new director, Dr. Michael Havener.
Dr. Havener has taught at the School os Library and Information Studies at the University of Oklahoma for the past ten years. At Oklahoma he taught information services, database searching, and government publications. He was also the Director of the University Library and Information Research Center - a center that supports research in the area of information and develops grant proposals to fund such research. He was assistant director of the library school for two years, with major responsibilities for student services, recruitment, financial aid, admissions and academic standing.
Dr. Havener has worked in several academic libraries including these at the University of Michigan, the University of South Carolina, and the University of Delaware. He has an impressive publication record and has an equally good record in acquiring grant funding. According to Professor Tryor at URI, Dr. Havener will arrive as the school enters an era of new technology applications, new approaches to distance education, and increasing challenges in the economics of higher education. |
