SIGN LANGUAGE VIDEOS
Since 1970, when the State Library opened its Services to the Handicapped (now the Bureau of Library Services to Persons with Disabilities) it has been seeking ways to live up to the name. It started as the regional center for the Talking Book service, then expanded into Large Print for public libraries, added a small demonstration collection of children's books for developmentally disabled adults and then described videos of popular movies. Now the Bureau is making its first effort to reach out to the profoundly deaf; videos in American Sign Language (ASL) with voiceover narration.
The initial collection is quite small; only six videos. A recent grant from the Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation will enable the Bureau to purchase several more.
You can find these videos through NHU-PAC. Choose Advanced search, then enter "find cn HRBD and fo vis and su sign language." |
