The New Hampshire library community was saddened to learn that Lt. Col. George H. Kimball, Jr. of Kittery, Maine died on September 4 at the Colombia Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

Mr. Kimball was the husband of Judith Kimball, the former supervisor of library development services at the New Hampshire State Library. A 1949 graduate of the University of New Hampshire, Mr. Kimball was a veteran of World War II and served in Germany, France, and Belgium. Following his years at UNH, he returned to active duty and served in England, Korea, and the United States, retiring in 1961. Mr. Kimball was an active genealogist with the Kimball Family Association and assisted his wife in the monumental task of revising The History of the Kimball Family in America. He was a strong supporter of the State Library, often making substantial monetary donations to assist in the purchase of such works as the American Genealogical Biographical Index.

Mr. Kimball will be missed and remembered by all who knew him.
