STATE LIBRARY RETIREMENTS
Jack Dunn, a well-known reference librarian at the State Library retired on April 30 after over 30 years of dedicated service. Jack received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of New Hampshire and his Masters of Library Science from Simmons College. He worked at the Boston Public Library from 1962 to 1966 when he accepted a position as an assistant reference librarian at the State Library. Jack's encyclopedic knowledge of New Hampshire history, geography, folklore, and life in general made him an invaluable resource to a generation of researchers and historians. He also provided excellent assistance and guidance to genealogists from all over the country and deserves lasting credit for compiling and revising (often) the valuable publication, Genealogical Resources in New Hampshire. His tenure at the State Library has made it a better place and will long be appreciated.
Shirley Vezina, a long term employee who worked in the Technical Services Section for over 26 years, retired at the end of May. She was hired to work in the Centralized Card Service Unit, pulling Library of Congress proof slips for card printing, and filling requests for catalog cards from libraries in Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont. She later moved to the Catalog Room, where she was responsible for checking in and keeping up-to-date the library's serial holdings. Her job was expanded to include acquisitions work, ordering new books and creating standing order accounts for the various special collections of the State Library. Her valuable knowledge and conscientious hard work will be difficult to replace. |
