GOVERNOR LAUNCHES WEBSITE
A large crowd was on hand at the New Hampshire State Library, January 9, 1997, when Governor Jeanne Shaheen officially launched the website for her office. This was one of several Inauguration Day events. Earlier in the day the Governor's Inaugural address had been posted on Webster, the official website for New Hampshire State Government.
In a day marked by firsts, this was the first time an Inaugural address by a New Hampshire governor was available on the Internet as it was being delivered.
While at the State Library, Governor Shaheen, the first woman elected to the state's highest office, signed a copy of the address and presented it to the library. State Librarian Kendall Wiggin noted that by including these actions as part of the inaugural activities the Governor demonstrated the growing importance that state government is placing on providing citizens with electronic access to state information. Webster, which is managed by the State Library, first went online in the fall of 1995 and is a collaborative effort of all three branches of government. Using the Internet, citizens can access the electronic resources of a growing number of state agencies.
