New Hampshire State Library
About Us - Publications - Once and Future Librarian - February 2, 2009

Administration - 603-271-2392

The New Hampshire State Digital Publications Library is now online and available for use by the public.  The service was designed to provide access to the growing number of state of New Hampshire agency publications that are available in digital format. It serves as a permanent archive of publications that would otherwise become unavailable when state agencies update their Web sites.  It can be accessed online via www.nh.gov/nhsl.  Click on "NH Digital Library" in the "Quick Links" box on the right.

New Hampshire’s Department of Cultural Resources is pleased to announce that the process to apply for grants through its Conservation License Plate grants programs—also called “Moose Plate” grants—is now open. The deadline for the 2009 grant round is March 27, 2009.  Please see the following page for more information about the Moose Plate grants being offered by the State Library: www.nh.gov/nhsl/services/librarians/moose.

Do you or any of your library staff members have specific technology training needs that are not being addressed by the Technology Workshops? Or perhaps none of the workshops have fit into your schedule? If so, feel free to contact Bobbi Slossar and request some informal, one-on-one training this winter.

Bobbi is happy to offer training on a wide range of technologies to a single individual at a time at NHSL. See below for some of the technology-based topics:

    • Web 2.0: A general overview
    • Microsoft office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
    • Building a library site with WordPress.com or Blogger -- or jazzing up an existing blog!
    • Creating a Facebook page for your library
    • Setting up Joomla, Drupal or WordPress.org as a local installation (your laptop required)
    • Setting up any of the above on a remote server to which you already have access
    • Introduction to Tech Planning
    • Using the state-provided databases (Ebsco, NoveLilst, NewsBank, Biography Resource Center, genealogy)
    • Setting up LibraryThing for readers' advisory
    • Introduction to RSS feeds and using a newsreader
    • Downloadable Audiobooks (OverDrive)
    • Other Web 2.0: bookmarking, social software, podcasting, etc.

The training is free, and Bobbi only asks that the training takes place at NHSL and that you are flexible to possible winter weather conditions.

Please call Bobbi at (603) 271-2143 or email her at bobbilee.slossar@dcr.nh.gov to set up training sessions.
