There is a new place to list all those wonderful freebies that NH libraries love to share with each other:
at WebJunction New Hampshire (http://nh.webjunction.org). Right at the top of the WJNH homepage, is a direct link to several popular areas, including the "NH Freebies". (You do have to be logged in to WJNH to get there!)
This is where we are asking everyone to list their free stuff to give away - and not to place these items on the nhais-l listserv anymore. This is an attempt to reduce the volume of traffic on nhais-l, as many librarians have requested.
TO OFFER A FREEBIE:
Go to the Freebies, and click on "Post New Topic", then post your message. Please include your e-mail address for those asking for your freebie to reply to you at.
TO CLAIM A FREEBIE:
Send an e-mail to the folks offering the Freebie. Please DO NOT post "claims" to the Freebies list.
For now, posted freebies will be deleted in 7 - 10 days, to keep the listing current. We hope to be able to offer self-deletion in the future.
You can check this Freebies listing as often as you wish, for new stuff. If you prefer to receive an e-mail when new freebies are posted, use the "WATCH" feature at the top of the Freebies list.
FREEBIES!!! Stuff for sale! A new place to go...
To post items for sale by NH libraries (NO COMMERCIAL VENDORS, PLEASE), use the NH For Sale list. It works the same way that the Freebies does.

Public and school librarians can apply for a "We the People" Bookshelf grant. This year's theme is "Becoming American." 2,000 school and public libraries will receive grants, which offer 15 free books related to the theme.
Guidelines and the online application are available at www.ala.org/wethepeople from September 6, 2005 - January 17, 2006. Libraries interested in receiving the collection are required to develop and host a program to introduce the collection and its theme of “Becoming American” to students and/or patrons. Unlike past We the People Bookshelves, there will be no second deadline for “Becoming American.” All applications are due by January 17, 2006.
